The Department of Trade and Industry's Bureau of Products
Standards has accredited TUV Rheinland Philippines Inc. to
conduct tests on the safety standards of product such as
household and similar electrical appliances and information
technology equipment.Manufacturers and
importers of the products under the mandatory product
certification schemes of the bureau can now have their products
tested at the TUV laboratory in Makati City on the following
standards: IEC 60335 (household and similar electrical
appliances- safety); IEC 60598 (luminaries -general requirements
and tests); IEC 60950 (Information technology equipment- safery).
TUV is the first international certification
body that was recognized by the agency.
Under the scheme, all manufacturers/
assemblers and importers or regulated products are required to
have their products tested at the bureau's testing center or any
BPS-accredited or recognized laboratory to determine if the
products meet the safety and quality requirements.
Manufacturers, importers and distributors
whose products were found not conforming to the requirements of
the relevant PNS, will be subjected to administrative actions by
the department under Republic Act. 4109, or the Standards Law
and Department Administrative Order 2:2002 (By Elaine Ruzul S.
