of Product Standards

electrical safety testing. This is also in response to the call
of our government regulators for more active participation of
the private sector in ensuring consumer protection. The company

products for compliance with national and international
requirements. Performing the product approval at TÜV Rheinland
laboratory means that all work is done at the laboratory.

such as testing, documentation and certification is done at the
site. The manufacturer is informed regularly about the progress
of the approval process. Using the laboratory service is

is the first
international Conformity Assessment Body to establish a testing
laboratory to undertake electrical product safety testing
according to IEC 60598 (Luminaires), IEC 60335 (Household
Appliances) and IEC60950 (IT Equipment) and IEC60065
(Audio-Video products).
This year,
the Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) of the Department of Trade
and Industry (DTI) has recognized the
TÜV Rheinland
Philippines, Inc. - Philippine Laboratory to
conduct tests on the following standards;
IEC 60335
(Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety); IEC
60598 (Luminaires – General Requirements and Tests); IEC 60950
(Information Technology Equipment - Safety).
Manufacturers and importers of products under the
mandatory Product Certification schemes of the BPS can now have
their products tested at the
TÜV Rheinland
Philippines Inc.- Philippine Laboratory. Under the BPS Product
Certification Scheme, all manufacturers/assemblers and importers
of regulated products are required to have their products tested
at the BPS Testing Center or any BPS-accredited or recognized
laboratory to determine if the products meet the safety and
quality requirements based on applicable Philippine National
Standards (PNS). Only those products that passed the tests are
issued the Philippine Standard (PS) License and the Import
Commodity Clearance (ICC) for locally-manufactured and imported
products, respectively; and are allowed to sold/distributed in
the domestic market.
Manufacturers,
importers and distributors whose products were found not
conforming to the requirements of the relevant PNS, shall be
subjected to administrative actions by the DTI under Republic
Act 4109 or the Standards Law and Department Administrative
Order (DAO) 2:2002 that include a minimum fine of Php 50,000 per
violation, without prejudice to the filing of criminal or civil
actions under applicable laws.
